Phil Reimer–aboard the Oasis of the Seas

Sorry for the lateness of the blog post. Now that I have visited most of the biggest ship in the world—I say most—luckily, I have another 50 plus hours to go to finish up some of the out of the way areas.

As I mentioned on previous posts, this ship is made up of several neighborhoods—one of which is called the Boardwalk—a throwback to Coney Island and the British sea port towns. You will never ever replicate all those smells though.

Remember the song “Under the Boardwalk” by the Drifters? Some of the lyrics went like this:

“From the park you hear the happy sound of the carousel,
You can almost taste the hot dogs and french fries they sell,
Under the boardwalk, down by the sea,
On a blanket with my baby, that’s where I’ll be.”

Most of that applies to Oasis; they actually do have a hand-crafted carousel made of poplar wood. Small of course, but the young kids and parents will love it.

The Boardwalk is the open interior area between the cabins. It’s open to the sky and to the sea through the back of the ship.

At the back of the ship is the Aqua Theatre where 750 can watch a high diving show. The pool is only 18 feet deep. See acrobats, synchro waters and light show, and syncro swimming—just like the Ester Williams movies—who…okay, watch the summer Olympics and you will know what I mean.

A Johnny Rockets hamburger place is here, along with a new restaurant for Royal—Seafood Shack. Get in line early or leave it for later. Both are pay restaurants, but not that expensive for what you receive.

Free donuts and an ice cream parlor are all a part of this open interior area. (I have still not found the right words to describe this area of the ship, others are also struggling. Hopefully the pictures will help.)

Lots of other shops are in the area, and while you’re watching the water show you can look up and see the rock climbers attempting to make it up the 43 ft twin walls. Above is an 80 ft zip line—although not that long or steep. I assume it’s a thrill as you look down into the Boardwalk from the top of the ship.

Day-by-day we will look at all of the neighborhoods and throw in any other news that comes our way from this ship.

This has nothing to do with the Boardwalk, but they are serving Starbucks in the Royal Promenade.

All for now.
